Rust Protection in Northern Virginia

Rust Prevention in Northern Virginia

In our region, VDOT’s winter brine pre-treatment and year-round moisture mean unprotected steel corrodes faster. Automotive Protection Services — Fairfax, VA delivers high-quality undercoating & rustproofing using Swedish-engineered Noxudol, backed by a 10-year written warranty on qualifying vehicles. Metal + oxygen + moisture = oxidation; salt accelerates it. With the right products and process, you can stop it before it starts.

Questions about your vehicle or use case? Reach out — we’ll walk you through the right protection plan.

Undercoating (Undercarriage Protection)

Step 1: Deep clean. We remove road grime, brine, mud, grease, and sand; then dry with high-pressure air on our four-post, drive-on lift.

Step 2: Cavity wax foundation. Noxudol cavity wax is applied inside frame and floor pan to displace moisture and prime internal seams.

Step 3: Mask & protect. Components not meant to be coated — exhaust, driveshaft, shocks, brake hardware — are masked.

Step 4: Noxudol 900 underbody coating. A thick, abrasion-resistant layer on frame rails, floor pans, rockers, wheel wells — everything that doesn’t move or get hot.

Qualifying vehicles receive a 10-year written warranty from Noxudol. See store for details.

Rustproofing (Upper-Body Cavity Wax)

We apply moisture-displacing cavity wax inside doors, rocker panels, hatch/tailgate, trunk lid, hood, and other internal cavities. This seals out air and moisture where rust often starts — from the inside out.

The combination of a waxy internal film + durable underbody barrier is the gold standard for long-term protection in our climate.

Rust Eliminator / Converter

For vehicles showing surface rust, we mechanically remove scale where possible (wire wheels/brushes), then apply a tannic, acid-based rust eliminator (similar to POR-15). It chemically stabilizes the oxidized metal and cures in ~8–12 hours. Once cured, the surface is ready for undercoating.

Severe perforation or structural rust may require repair prior to coating — we’ll advise you honestly after inspection.

Serving Fairfax and the broader Mid-Atlantic — contact us to stop rust from gaining a foothold.

Schedule & Turnaround

  • New vehicles: Often same-day application; we recommend overnight cure time when possible.
  • Rust remediation + coating: Typically 1–2 days depending on scope.
  • Military & First Responders: 10% off initial services — thank you for your service.
  • Night drop and after-hours drop-off available.

Undercoating Options: Woolwax® vs. Noxudol 900

We offer two high-performance systems. Woolwax® (lanolin-based) excels as a non-drying, self-healing film. Noxudol 900 (bitumen-wax) dries to the touch and forms a thick abrasion-resistant barrier. Choose based on use, maintenance preference, and desired finish.

Woolwax® Rust Prevention Undercoat

  • Lanolin-based, solvent-free, non-hazardous; applied clear, drip-controlled.
  • Leaves a soft, self-healing film; does not dry out.
  • Excellent for harsh, salty environments; annual re-application recommended.

Noxudol 900 Underbody Coating

  • Thixotropic, chemically stabilized blend of bitumen, waxes, rust inhibitors, and solvents.
  • Dries to the touch, resists abrasion, water, and road salt; black finish.
  • Paired with Noxudol cavity wax for complete inside-out protection.

Noxudol 900 — Product Details

Description: Noxudol 900 is a thixotropic, chemically stabilized underbody coating consisting of bitumen, waxes, rust inhibitors, and solvents. It provides preventive rust protection, reliable abrasion resistance, and is water/salt repellent — ideal for underbodies and wheel arches.

Noxudol 750 — Cavity Wax

Description: Noxudol 750 is a chemically active anti-corrosive compound with low surface tension (mineral oil, waxes, rust inhibitors, solvents). It penetrates seams, displaces moisture, and dries to a waxy, moisture-repellent film — engineered for internal cavities (doors, rockers, frames, etc.).

Proven with European OEMs

Noxudol has long roots in European rust-prevention — including historical use with Volvo for cavity protection and underbody treatments. The brand’s portfolio includes solvent-free options and moisture-displacing waxes designed for factory and aftermarket applications. That heritage is why we trust Noxudol for vehicles driven in the Mid-Atlantic.

Undercoating & Rustproofing — FAQs

Will undercoating void my vehicle warranty?

No. Properly applied undercoating/rustproofing does not void manufacturer warranties. It complements your maintenance plan by protecting frames, pans, and seams.

How do you apply the coating?

We deep-clean and dry the underside; remove spare (if under-mounted); mask exhaust, driveshaft, shocks, and brake hardware; then spray a uniform film over frame, pans, wheel wells, and rockers. Internal cavities receive a moisture-displacing wax.

Can undercoating cause rust?

No. Rust is oxidation (iron + oxygen + moisture). Quality coatings prevent rust by keeping moisture and salt off the steel.

Do modern cars still rust?

Yes — less than decades ago, but they still corrode, especially in brine/salt states. Seams, welds, and inner cavities are vulnerable.

When should I undercoat?

Best: when new. If rust is present, remediate first; then protect.

Is it too late if I already see rust?

Not necessarily. We can stabilize light corrosion with mechanical prep + rust converter, then coat. Severe rust may require repair prior to coating.

Is undercoating just a dealer upsell?

When done right with the right materials, it works. Our process is transparent and inspection-friendly.

What’s in the coating?

We use Noxudol — a professional-grade, solvent-borne bitumen/wax system — paired with a moisture-displacing cavity wax.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes — 10-year written warranty on qualifying vehicles (under 36 months/36k at time of service) with annual maintenance/inspection. Ask us for full terms.

How much will it cost?

Final cost depends on vehicle size/condition and any rust remediation. Call us or request a quote for an exact estimate.

A Word from Our Lead Undercoating Technician — Oscar S.

APS undercoating technician applying rust remediation before undercoating

I’ve protected a lot of Northern Virginia daily drivers and work trucks. Salt and brine don’t take days off — but the right prep and the right products make a night-and-day difference.

“You can’t undo rust once it really sets in — you can only stop it from getting worse.”
— Oscar S., Lead Undercoating Tech at APS
  • Clean first, always. We strip off grime, brine, and moisture before we coat.
  • Inside the frame matters. Our cavity wax displaces moisture where rust likes to start.
  • Annual checkups win. Quick inspections keep coatings healthy and your steel protected.
  • Newer vehicles are easiest. The earlier we protect, the better it holds up long-term.

When we install Noxudol 900 with a Noxudol cavity wax base, most of what I see a year later is wear on the coating — not fresh corrosion on the metal. That’s the point: keep the elements off the steel.

Oscar’s Tip: If your vehicle’s over 4 years old or shows surface rust, we’ll do quick remediation first so the coating bonds right and lasts.
